Nursery Jack and the Beanstalk

I hope you are all keeping well.

LITERACY

This week we are looking at the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.

If you don't have a paper version, there is a link here to a story we watch on YouTube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5rxfLRgXRE

We will ask the children lots of questions about the story -

Who are the people in the story?

Where is the story set?

Is the giant scary?

Why does the giant get cross?

Should Jack have taken the giant's hen?

We will also act out the story playing the different characters.

We are going to draw a part of the story - it might be the beanstalk, the giant, the cow or even the magic beans! Please encourage your child to hold the pencil/pen with a nip, nip grip. The children will all be at a very different stage holding a pencil/pen and drawing the picture. I've attached an image to show how grips develop over time - please don't worry about where your child is on this image - as you can see this is a huge skill that takes a long time to develop!

I would really appreciate if you complete this activity, that you take a photograph and send it onto me at -

becky.dickinson@fosse-way-academy.org

as I will print them out and add them to the children's profiles.

MATHS

We will be looking at size and finding objects that are smaller or larger and using language such as tiny, small, little, big, huge, enormous.

UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD

We are linking this to life on a farm. We are going to watch a Topsy and Tim video.

What animals live on a farm?

What noises do they make?

Do you know what their babies are called?

We are going to sing along to 'A Farmer's Life for Me'.

FINGER GYM

Finger gym involves activities that strengthen fingers, grip and wrists and improves dexterity.

This week we are chopping fruit and soft vegetables (not with sharp knives!)

We will also be threading pasta/beads onto a string.

ONGOING ACTIVITIES

Counting up to 10 (beyond if you can) and counting back from 10

Number recognition

Working on name recognition and beginning to write letters in our name

We will be exercising along with Joe Wicks on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9.00am. This can be found on his YouTube channel.

WELL BEING FOCUS

This is an activity we do each week that promotes self confidence and self awareness. This week's focus is enjoying the responsibility of carrying out small tasks. We are encouraging the children to tidy and clean up all the toys in Nursery! Lots of praise when there's a tidy space!!

Next week's focus is the Three Little Pigs - look out for the blog on Monday 11th January.
