Gingerbread men

We had a great time reading and learning all about the the Gingerbread Man.  One of our favourite things to do was making gingerbread men.  They were delicious!!

Can you spot yours?

Swimming superstars!

We have 2 more swimming superstars to celebrate today!

Isaac was so proud to bring his swimming badge into Nursery. He told us all about how he swims with a green woggle and even gave us a demonstration of what he does with his arms!

Jude was equally as proud and told us how he had to swim across the pool and back again with nothing on!!

Well done boys!

Red Nose Day!

Red Nose Day 2017
We wore our red noses, told jokes and bought cakes to help raise money for children who aren’t as lucky as us.

They Lived Happily Ever After...

You are invited to the wedding of
Cinderella and Prince Charming

Today we celebrated the end of our traditional tales topic. All week we have been preparing for Cinderella’s wedding banquet -
we have made tiaras, watches and button holes.
Food is a main part of a wedding - we had homemade jelly, ice cream, fizzy water and fairy cakes in the sunshine.

Science Day

Our children really enjoyed our Science Day. As part of 'British Science Week', we spent an afternoon investigating this year's theme - changes.

After reading Mr Wolf's Pancakes, we observed how food might change before we eat it.

We tried to answer these questions:

  • What happens to ice cream and chocolate when it warms up?
  • Where does sugar go when you up lemon juice on?
  • Can you put a banana back to normal when it has been mashed?

We also designed our favourite pancakes!

The Magic Porridge Pot

Last week, our class story was The Magic Porridge Pot. It was a story about a pot that could make endless amounts of porridge. All you had to do was say the magic words and it would start, then say more magic words to make it stop. In the story, they forgot the words to make it stop and porridge went all over the town. They needed a super hero to help clean it up!

We followed instructions to make our own porridge pots with play dough and had a go at building the town from the story.

We even became super heroes and made up secret identities!

Next Week

We are really excited about our new role-play and small world tray next week.

Can you guess the story?

Science Week

We have had a brilliant time this week exploring colour. We have been busy doing lots of different experiments making new colours! We loved the skittles experiment especially because we got to try a skittle afterwards. The questions and comments the children have been asking and making have been wonderful!

Well done Nursery!

Lile's rainbow

When Lilé got home from Nursery yesterday she wanted to draw a rainbow,  she decided to use chalk in the garden. Whilst she was drawing it she was naming all the colours.
A big well done Lilé

I would love to see other children's rainbows.  How will you make yours?

Science Day

National Science Week.
2017

The theme this year was ‘Changes.’ Before we started our work we talked about all the
different changes that we knew about already.
· Water changes to ice when it freezes - Ethan. Stonham In winter - Flynn
· Coco pops makes the milk change. It goes brown and chocolatey - Sam Gant
· The weather changes - Connor We have different seasons - Amelia

We decided to investigate the changes in some food when you make them warm.
After reading Mr Wolf’s Pancakes we tried pancakes with different toppings
· Banana - it was very soft and easily squashed - it became a little bit slimy
· Chocolate - as the chocolate got warmer it became softer - it melted
· Ice cream - like the chocolate the ice cream melted and became quite runny as it warmed up
· Lemon and sugar - it looked like the sugar was disappearing - it was dissolving

Colours of the rainbow!

At the end of our colour week we made a rainbow! They had to hunt around the classroom for objects of different colours! They all did a great job and we love the result, do you?

Can you make your own rainbows at home and send me a picture?

sarah.jarrett@fosse-way-academy.org

A special sticker for all those children that make their own rainbow and send it to me.

Messy play!

We are having a great week getting all messy making different colours and exploring science!
In this activity we are exploring what happens when we mix different coloured powder paint and shaving foam!

The Magic Porridge Pot

We have had another busy week in Reception.
This week we have been exploring
The Magic Porridge Pot Story.
We have.
·      Invented porridge removing machines
just like Wallace and Gromit
·      Retold the story using the wooden building bricks,
fabric and puppets.
·      Made our own porridge pots with the play dough

BUT

our favourite part of the week was working in our
Super Hero Rescue Centre.
When you have porridge running through the streets where
you live, pouring out of the windows of your house
and flooding your gardens!

Who do you call?

The Fosse Way Super Heroes Rescue Centre –
They have a Super Hero for every disaster!
