Nursery- Loose parts

We are enjoying exploring our loose parts in Nursery; which in a nutshell are materials that can be moved, carried, combined, redesigned, lined up, and taken apart and put back together in multiple ways. They are materials with no specific set of directions that can be used alone or combined with other materials.

This afternoon some children decided to sit at the loose parts area and start to create patterns. One ended up as a group of circles each one made with different objects, one started as a face but developed into much much more, another was a patterned layered sequins and cogs!

Each one unique and equally wonderful!

Nursery- Mark making!

In Nursery we like to provide lots of opportunities to make marks and explore! Outside this morning we placed some chalk on the ground. The children started off by drawing and writing their names on the ground; a focus of ours this week. They then ventured to making marks on the nearby tyres, once one of them started we had lots of children drawing on them. With a bit of careful prompting the children then started to to explore what happened when they mixed two colours together! We then added some water and they used the brushes to mix the chalk together. Such wonderful language and exploration which all came from a small pot of chalk and our children inquisitiveness!

Nursery- painting!

We have had such a wonderful time exploring painting on a different surface- cling film! The children were fascinated as to what would happen when they started to paint on it! It didn’t take them long to realise that if they then added two colours together they would mix to make a new colour!

“ wow! Look at that colour!”

“I’ve made orange!”

“If you mix red and yellow together it makes orange!”

“Look at the purple I made!”

Just a few of the comments the children were making whilst painting!
We then took it one step further by climbing on to the table so we could painting each other’s face...so much fun!

3...2...1....BLAST OFF

Where is space?

What are the names of our planets? What are they like?

Is the moon really made of cheese?

These are just some of the important questions that we have been discussing this week. The children have busy designing and building rockets, counting backwards from 10 and 20 and imagining what aliens might look like.

Enjoy!

A Truly Magical Train Ride

Where would your magic ticket take you?

A land of cake, dinosaurs, fairies, aliens…

The options are endless!
Watch this space to see our magical adventures.

The Train Went Down the Track...

The Train Went Down the Track

Our Railway Station Role Play has been a real success.

We have…

Sold tickets
Mended the train
Been a passenger
Managed the station
Driven the FWA Express

We have also been talking about the different places we could
travel to and why?
Nottingham or Sheffield
shops
Liverpool or Manchester
football
Newark
castle and boat rides

London
Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and
SO much more!

Where would you go
and why?

Continuing our bear hunt

Where is that BEAR?
Being chased by a bear wasn’t something any of us wanted so…

we have been looking at different animal footprints and recreating them with natural objects.

Our drawing on the iPads is just getting better and better!

As well as being iPad experts, we have started learning how to program a Bee-Bot.

We really had to think…

Which direction should the Bee-Bot go?
How many steps should the Bee-Bot take?

We're going on a bear hunt

Were going on a Bear Hunt!
This week our learning has been focussed on travelling across land.

The story we have been using is…
We’re Going On A Bear Hunt

One of our Literacy jobs was to draw a story map –
putting the events of the story in the correct order.

If you were going on a bear hunt what would you take?

Once inside the deep dark cave the characters see….

1 shiny wet nose!
2 big furry ears!
2 big goggly eyes!

Our guided writing this week was to think of words to describe…
the BEAR!!

A Fishy Week!

What a fishy week!

This week we have read lots of different water related stories. Our favourites were 'Tiddler', 'The Snail and the Whale', 'Dougal's Deep-Sea Diary' and 'Commotion in the Ocean'.
Have you read any of these at home?

We have enjoyed using our imagination in our fantastic 'underwater' role play area. We've even been on a trip in a yellow submarine!

We have been working hard with our observational drawing skills. We looked closely at some trout and made some fantastic pencil drawings. We also used illustrations from picture books to draw sea creatures on our IPads too!

We are beginning to make some 3D fish and began to cover some balloons with sticky papier mache.

We explored 'floating' and 'sinking' in our water tray.

We've had a busy maths week: ordering numbered sea creatures, playing fishy number BINGO, jumping on a numberline to add two numbers, finding objects shorter and longer than a fish, and also using the bar model to make different totals of fish to 10. WOW!

In our class, we have some super Teamwork Toucans who enjoy the challenge of doing jigsaws.

Looking forward to next week!

Bringing Writing to Life

We have been working really hard on our handwriting and phonic skills during our shared writing activities. The children have been imagining unusual things that they might see on a magical train journey of their own.
Here are some of the pieces that the children were proud of:

After our group discussion and writing tasks, we shared our imaginative ideas. We even acted out our own adventure based on the story of "We're Going on a Bear Hunt". We watched a story teller and joined in with the actions for each obstacle and even invented some of our own!

Here are some of the children's independent writing that happened at the end of the week. Well done Joseph, Evie and Cooper!
