RBingham - Exploring - On Safari (week 1)

 Exploring - On Safari

This week we have enjoyed the story 'Handa's Surprise' and talked about living in a village in Kenya.

We found Africa on a world map.
We have been learning about what it might be like to go on a Safari.
We named lots of animals that live in Africa.
We talked about the similarities and differences between a Safari and a Zoo.

We have named the different fruits from the story such as guava, passion fruit, mango, avacado, tangerines, and sequenced the animals that took Handa's fruit using ordinal numbers.

We talked about how we could travel to Africa. We decided that it would be quickest by aeroplane, so we built planes to get there.

George's parents have been lucky enough to go on a Safari holiday. He brought a map, African mask and a porcupine quill in to school to show us!

We have had a great time going on a Safari in our wonderful role play area. You wouldn't believe how many animals we have spotted!

We have enjoyed creating a Safari using our small world and construction.

We have been busy making Safari maps, labelling lots of different animals.

We have enjoyed looking at information books and drawing animals carefully, looking at the patterns on their skin/fur.

We also used a drawing app on our IPads to draw Safari animals too.

We created Safari animals using our tap-tap shapes.

We have been using 2 tens frames to make teen numbers. We counted on from 10.
Another busy, fun-filled week!

Mrs Dodge - At the Seaside (week 1)

 At the Seaside

This week in Literacy we were writing about what we would be able to see in a rock pool, made tickets to go on some rides and thought about the activities we can do at the seaside so we could make a leaflet.

In Numeracy we have been counting groups of objects (in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s), partitioning numbers using our cups and saucers, totalling up our scores for a beanbag game and recognising two digit numbers while playing bingo.

In the afternoons we designed our own seaside towns. We had to make a 3D map and label a 2D map. We enjoyed buying ice cream from our van and played in the sand. We also loved making our own sea creatures using cutting and sticking.

We have loved the challenge in the sandpit this week. We had to learn how to make a sandcastle.

We have been looking at an artist called Paul Klee. We looked at one of his pieces of art work. We thought about what we could see and what he used to make the pictures. We had a go at using 2D shapes to make our own version of the artwork.

Take a look at our caterpillars this week... they have started to hang!
