Space (Part 2)

Space

This week we have been finding out lots of information about SPACE. We have particularly enjoyed singing The Solar System Song.

We have learnt lots of facts about the different planets in our solar system.

We have made obstacle courses in our outside classroom. Some of us travelled from our rockets to the moon!

We even had to solve problems using aliens with one eye or two eyes.

We explored 2D shapes to create our own rockets. Then we named and labelled each shape. Fantastic!

We also Played lots of games with 3D shapes. We are very good at naming them.

We counted down from 20 - 0. BLAST OFF!!!!!!!

Looking forward to our school trip on Thursday!

Have a fantastic Bank Holiday weekend everyone!

Swimming celebration

Theo is doing brilliantly with his swimming and has brought in another swimming certificate to celebrate with us. Theo told us he had to kick really hard and scoop really hard, that sounds very tricky!

Well done Theo!

Sound walk

This week the rainbow children have been using their senses during a sound walk. We went all over our school, inside and out listening really hard.

Some of the things we have heard outside have included footsteps, rustling leaves, trees flapping, birds tweeting, lawnmowers, sirens and crunching stones.

Whilst inside we have heard doors closing, brushes sweeping,  children singing and talking, a printer and an earthquake experiment!

We loved exploring our school and describing all of the different sounds!

What sounds can you hear at home?

Space picnic

Today blue group decided that they wanted to take a picnic to the moon just like the bear in Whatever Next.  They planned exactly what they needed and then made jam sandwiches and green jelly. Excitedly, we used our imaginations to fly all the way to the moon in our rocket so we could eat our delicious picnic.
Mrs Jarrett even brought biscuits too!

Our First PE Lesson

Here are some pictures from our very first PE lesson. We had a great time!
First we walked around the room, finding spaces and moving around our friends, then we walked sideways like crabs! Mr Toyne then asked us to walk backwards without bumping into anyone. It was really tricky!

We visited the ‘Sweet Shop’ and each got a boiled sweet bean bag. We ran around the gym, dropping our sweet into different flavoured coloured circles to make some tasty treats.

After we went to the ‘Dinosaur Park’. Here, we fed the dinosaurs by under arm throwing our bean bag food to the dinosaurs.

We are really looking forward to our next PE lesson!

New week

Nursery are all set for a new week. Can you guess where we will be exploring this week?

Let's explore SPACE.

Exploring SPACE.

After reading 'Whatever Next?' we decided to travel into space. Some of us built rockets using 3D shapes and some of us used 2D shapes.

We used tap-tap shapes to make different sized rockets. Blast off!!

In maths we have been using our problem solving and reasoning skills. How many different ways can 12 aliens travel in 3 spaceships?

Most of all, we have had a fantastic time in our Space Station role play. We had lots of space emergencies to attend to!

Reception Spring Disco

End of Term Spring Disco

Our fantastic 'Friends of Fosse Way' PTA Group put on a wonderful Spring Disco for all of the children in Reception. All of the children who attended had a brilliant time!

We played games such as Musical Statues and Spring Corners.
There were some fantastic dancers too! Good job we had refreshments to keep us going.

We also had an Easter Bonnet competition and were amazed by the fantastic head-wear created! As you can see, it was very difficult to choose winners as they were all brilliant!

A huge 'Thank you' to The Friends of Fosse Way for a superb evening.
Also a big 'Thank you' to the parents for working with their children to make such wonderful Easter Bonnets.
Finally, and most importantly, an enormous 'Well done' to all of the children in Reception - you are a credit to our school. Your behaviour was exemplary!

Wishing you all an enjoyable and relaxing break.
