Celebrating Diwali
This week we have been learning about the Hindu 'Festival of Light' - 'Diwali'.
We read a story about Rama and Sita, which we enjoyed retelling using masks and puppets.
We also used our wooden blocks and puppets to act out the story.
We created thrones for Prince Rama and his wife Sita in our outside classroom.
In order to help us understand how this festival is celebrated, we read lots of information books and also watched CBeebies 'Let's Celebrate Diwali' (please click on the link below)
We also watched 'My First Festival' (please click on the link below)
After finding out lots of information, we prepared our house by cleaning everywhere!
We used a range of materials to create 'rangoli' patterns to welcome friends and family.
We also created 'rangoli' patterns using Numicon.
We used play dough to make 'diva lamps'...
... and drew 'mehndi' patterns on hand shapes.
We also had a fantastic 'Diwali Feast' of Indian foods such as basmati rice, naan bread, popadoms, pakoras, samosas, onion bhajis, mango chutney and raita dip! What a feast!!!
We really really enjoyed trying a range of different foods.
We even washed up afterwards!
