RBingham - Celebrating Autumn

Celebrating Autumn!

This week we have been finding out about Autumn.

We have been finding out about hibernating animals and insects.

We used natural materials to build a home for a hibernating hedgehog.

We made leaf rubbings using wax crayons.

We also looked carefully at autumn leaves and made observational drawings, which we are very proud of!

We have been very busy in maths too!
We used leaf-shaped sponges to create 2 and 3 colour repeat patterns...

...explored the concept of subtraction: the autumn wind blew some conkers off the tree. We even recorded some of our work as number sentences.

We also had a challenge to build some climbing equipment for Percy the Park Keeper's park. We had to use 5 interlocking cubes of the same colour and find lots of different ways to make the climbing equipment.

In our outside classroom, we have been busy making repeat patterns and also making number lines using natural materials.

We also used our Autumn materials to work in the style of artist Andy Goldsworthy.

This week, we have really enjoyed listening to lots of stories about Percy the Park Keeper by Nick Butterworth. Our role play area has been based around Percy's shed, where we have been busy planting seeds, making lists and acting out the stories with puppets.

As you can see, we've had a fun-filled week learning all about Autumn!
