Jack and the Beanstalk

Jack and the Beanstalk

Fee! Fi! Fo! Fum!
We have some fantastic story tellers in our class. Each group have really enjoyed retelling the story using lots of expression - we've had some fearsome giants and mischievous Jacks.

We had a 5 minute challenge to see who could build the longest beanstalk using Octoplay. Then we had to find out who had won and count how many pieces we had used. Most of us enjoyed this activity so much that we had lots of tries!

In our outside classroom, one of our challenges was to work as Teamwork Toucans to build a new castle for the giant. I think that he will have a very difficult task in choosing which one to move in to!

In maths, we've been really busy solving number problems using Jack's magic beans. We've explored estimating, subtraction, doubling and halving. We've also used a range of equipment and beanstalk games to explore number bonds to 10.

Of course, we had to plant our own magic beans so that we could grow our own beanstalks!

We will need to keep checking on our beans so that we can record their growth in our bean diaries.
I wonder if we notice any changes after the weekend...

Throughout the week, we have shared lots of books, but our favourites have been: 'Jack and the Jelly Bean Stalk', 'Jim and the Beanstalk' and 'Jack and the Incredibly Mean Stalk'. Have your grown-ups read any of these?

  1. It's lovely to see Kaitlyn learning in so may different ways and in and out of the classroom. Kaitlyn loved showing us her beans growing when we came in for leap into learning and we have brought some seeds to grow some things at home too which Kaitlyn is very excited about
