Nursery - Little Red Riding Hood

 Little Red Riding Hood

This week's story is Little Red Riding Hood.

If you don't have a paper version here is a link

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0W86K1jBJFI

Why does Red Riding Hood visit Grandma's house?

Mummy has some rules for Red Riding Hood - what are they?

What does Red Riding Hood spot on her walk through the woods?

What does the wolf look like?

Red Riding Hood says Grandma has big .....? What are the things that Red Riding Hood says are big?

Retell the story - remember to give all the characters different voices! You could make puppets or use toys to help the story in the correct order.

Mathematics

We will be doing lots of counting this week, pointing and counting different objects (1:1 correspondence). We will count objects into the picnic basket, decorations onto the cake, toys into a tray, steps, jumps, etc.

Topmarks has some lovely counting games for younger children.

Understanding the World

Have a picnic as a treat. Encourage your child to help make the sandwiches and prepare the picnic before eating it on a rug. I'm not sure I can guarantee the weather, but an inside picnic is just as much fun!

Take a walk in some local woods - think about which animals you might see there (hopefully no wolves!)Can you see any birds - can you name lots of different kinds of birds? Here are some you might see in your garden.

Use your senses while walking - what can you hear, smell, see, feel?

PSED

In the story, Grandma is feeling unwell. Talk about things that Red Riding Hood could take to Grandma to help her feel better. Make a 'Get Well' card or picture for Grandma. Don't forget to practise writing your name!

Physical Development

Make a cake for Grandma (real or playdough) and decorate with tasty treats. Count the decorations as you add them.

Decorate a bucket or large container to look like the wolf. Encourage your child to practise throwing beanbags/balls into the bucket to feed the wolf!

We are really working on our jigsaw puzzle skills - so any puzzles you may have, put them out and see if they can be completed.

Well - Being

We are going to think about what makes us special - are you kind? Are you good with numbers? Can you ride a bike? Are you good building with construction? Drawing? Painting? Talking?! Let us know why you're special.

Ongoing activities

Name recognition and writing

Independence with clothing when dressing/undressing

Listening and speaking skills when having a conversation

Hope you are all keeping well.

Thursday March 4th is World Book Day

Here is a link to the World Book Day webpage which has ideas for nursery aged children. We have obviously been sharing lots of books due to our focus being traditional tales but it would be lovely if you could send us a picture of your child holding their favourite book.
