Homework Ideas and Support while school is closed

School Closure/ Homework ideas

Dear Parents/Carers,
To help support you having your child at home over the coming weeks, we have put together some websites that we use to support your child’s learning.

Firstly some very useful websites have opened up their resources to parents free of charge during this period:

Twinkl
This has wealth of work, power points and activities.
Setting this up is really easy to do - go to www.twinkl.co.uk/offer and enter the code UKTWINKLHELPS

White Rose Maths
https://whiterosemaths.com

Education City:
https://www.educationcity.com
All children will have a username and password stuck in their reading diary. Please access the content on F2. This has great songs and games to complete for all areas of learning.

Classroom Secrets:

Interactive games can often be found on:

Suggestions on what you can do:
Fine Motor ideas:
- Make play dough from scratch using instructions from Twinkl.
- Make models of things (eg. trees, birds, cars, people).
- Roll, squash and stretch the play dough.
- Make sausages so they can be made into letters and numbers.
- Use pegs to strengthen hands/fingers.
- Treading shoelaces through holes (eg. on shoes or in a colander).

Maths ideas:
- Counting games. We love this song to 20...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MVzXKfr6e8
or you could try 100...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dkPouLWCyc
- Adding and subtraction games/number sentences (especially number bonds to 5/10).
- one more/ one less activities.
- Practise number formation.
- Recognising and ordering numbers to 20.
- Recognising and naming 2D and 3D shapes (find the real shapes around your house). Can you record what you found and what shape it was?
This song is nice:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTeqUejf3D0
- Doubling and halving
- Find the Numberblocks on:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPlwvN0w4qFSP1FllALB92w

Literacy ideas:
- Singing the alphabet song.
- Ordering letters of the alphabet (lower case and upper case).
- Keep a simple diary of what you have been up to during your time away from school.
- Draw and label objects around your house (use the phonics mat from Parent's Evening to help if needed). Please remember that writing things like 'I liek chocoalet' is a PLAUSIBLE way of writing, as these sounds have been taught and are being applied to what they can hear. We do not expect children of this age to know all the spelling patterns involved in 'chocolate'.
- Practise letter formation.
- Practise 'Fred finger' games where your child can try to pinch the sounds they can hear for simple words and can then write them down.
- Practise 'Fred talking' a word so your child can put it back together/blend it to tell you what it was (eg. t-o-p. ch-a-t)
- Find alphablocks on:

Understanding the World:
There are some lovely ideas of experiments to do at home on:
https://seerih-innovations.org/science4families/
Have a look at the 'Taking Root' activities which are light green tiles on the tree.
There are also some lovely ideas on things to explore and test on:
https://www.firstdiscoverers.co.uk/early-years-science-activities-eyfs/
You could explore:
- what floats and sinks at home?
- What is magnetic?
- Make a weather station and see how much rain we get in one week.
- Make some cornflour slime.
- Make a homemade marble run. How far can you get it to roll without touching the floor?
