RMcCabe - Little Red Riding Hood

This week we have been sharing different versions of the Traditional Tale of Little Red Riding Hood. The children have been acting out the story using puppets and getting into the different roles using masks and the Role Play area.

Group reading - the children have really enjoyed sharing a book between their friends this week. They took turns to read and listen to others read and hunted for sounds and tricky words.

Our work with clocks has continued, the children are working on o'clock and half past times. Some are even reading quarter past and twenty past times! This week the children made their own clocks.

Outside they have been making the woods safer by building traps to catch the wolf before he reaches Granny's house and making pathways so that people don't get lost on their way through the woods.

Thinking about Little Red Riding Hood's big basket of cakes, the children have been finding different ways of making 10. All they know is that she had 10 cakes but not how many of each flavour. If there were 5 chocolate cakes there must have been 5 vanilla... if there were 9 chocolate there must have been 1 vanilla... The children tried to find all the different combinations of numbers to make 10.

Finally, they have made their own sandwiches. They chose to put jam, ham, cheese or cheese spread in their sandwich. Jam seemed to be the most popular choice, although a few brave children wanted to try jam and ham and decided it was delicious!

What a super week everyone, have a great weekend!
