Chinese New Year 2019
This week we have been busy celebrating Chinese New Year.
2019 is The Year of the Pig.
We learnt about how each year got its name by reading 'The Great Race'.
We found out how Chinese New Year is celebrated by watching Cbeebies (please click on the link below)
We also read books such as 'Lanterns and Firecrackers'.
We really enjoyed setting up our own Chinese restaurant.
We enjoyed eating rice and vegetable stir fry with noodles using chopsticks. It was very tricky! We also enjoyed tasting prawn crackers too. Delicious!
We had fun creating a Chinese dragon dance and moved to some Chinese music.
We made cut and stick dragons to dance to the Chinese music too!
We also made Chinese lanterns.
Did you know that red is a lucky colour?
We all made cut and stick lucky red envelopes.
These are given to children as presents during Chinese New Year (with money inside!).
We used 1p and 10p coins to make teen numbers. We put the money inside our lucky red packets!
We also used our cups and saucers with tens and ones to make the teen numbers too.
Some of us even used 2p coins to make even numbers!
We also enjoyed listening to a story called 'Cleversticks' about a little boy who had just started school. He didn't think that he was good at anything but then he showed his friends how to use chopsticks!
We have learnt so much about how Chinese New Year is celebrated.
Can you answer the questions in the CBeebies quiz?
