The two books we
have been enjoying this week are 'The Magic Train Ride' and 'The Train Ride'.
We have been spotting shapes in the trains and following instructions to
construct our own trains out of 2D shapes.
The children used 2D
shapes as templates. They drew around each shape on coloured card, cut them out
and stick them together. They are trying really hard to stay on the line as
they cut and are working on cutting around a curve.
The children have also been practising finding
the letter in their first and last names and putting them in order. The train
strips below help them to form good habits for writing like starting left to
right.
The children have been working to improve their
understanding of number bonds to 10. They have been matching two train and
carriage numbers that add up to 10 (above) as well as pairing two lines of
carriages that form a string of 10 (below). We started talking about 'tea'
number this week, these are numbers that end in a 0 like eighty. The children
have been practising counting in ten, this will help us this week when we start
counting out 10 pence pieces in our train station role play.
