Harvest Festival

This week in Reception we have been learning about Harvest Festival and what happens at harvest time. The children have been naming, drawing and sorting all kinds of fruit and veg, as well as building farms from Duplo and making tractors outside.

They have linked the colourful food with our repeating patters from our Bonfire topic and made their own 3 colour repeating patterns! They have also been making different sized fruits and veggies with play dough and put them in order of smallest to biggest. Well done!

Here we were adding two numbers together to find the total. A farmer was harvesting from two trees. We put different numbers of apples in each tree and counted them all to find out how many the farmer would have in his basket.

After reading the story 'The Little Red Hen', we decided to make our own bread. The children had a go at measuring, weighting, mixing and kneading the dough. When the bread was out of the oven, we all sat down to munch into our home make rolls. Yum!
