Happy Diwali
This
week we have been learning about the
Hindu
Festival of Light – Diwali.
Our
first job was to find out why and how
Diwali is celebrated.
Making
Rangoli patterns is really important tradition.
They
are said to bring good luck to the household.
We
used coloured stones, rice and bottle tops to
create our own impressive Rangoli
patterns –
working as a team made this so much easier!
Hindu’s
read the story of Rama and Sita when it is Diwali.
Rama had to be really brave
to rescue his beautiful wife Sita from the evil ten headed demon king.
Thank
goodness for Hanuman, the king of the monkey,
he gave Rama a special arrow that
allowed
Rama to kill the demon king.
As
Rama and Sita travelled home they were guided all the way to their amazing
palace by garlands of
flowers and diva lamps (candles)
We ended our week of
Diwali celebration with a
few Indian snacks – poppadums,
samosas and onion bhajis
dipped in mango chutney
and raita.
