Nursery - The Gingerbread Man

 The Gingerbread Man

This week's story is The Gingerbread Man.

Here is a link if you don't have a paper version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U89dkGrsYZY

Help your child draw a story map thinking about who the Gingerbread Man runs away from. This could be added to over the week as this is a massive job for just one sitting! Draw a wiggly line to show the path and draw the characters as the Gingerbread Man runs away from them. This an example of a very detailed story map -

Mathematics

Counting - we will do some 1:1 correspondence this week. You could write the numbers onto card/paper gingerbread men, roll a dice or just say a number and your child needs to count out the same number of buttons.

Understanding the World

We are going to think about floating and sinking this week. If you don't have a water tray, you could use the washing up bowl or even the bath at bathtime! Why do they think the objects have sunk? Why do things float?

Make gingerbread men and decorate with some tasty treats.

Make playdough so the children can make and decorate their own gingerbread men. (If you wrap the play dough in cling film, it should last the week!)

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

Write numbers on the floor (inside or outside). Say a number and your child finds that number. They then do that number of jumps, hops, squats, star jumps, etc, before moving on.

We will try to develop cutting skills this week and make a cut and stick gingerbread man. We will cut small pieces of paper and stick them to the outline of the gingerbread man before adding eyes, a mouth and some buttons.

FINGER GYM

Use pegs and sticks to create a bridge for the Gingerbread Man so he's not gobbled up by the fox!

ONGOING ACTIVITIES

Continuing with number and name recognition
Self help skills - putting on coats and shoes, toileting, handwashing
Speaking and listening - taking it in turns in a conversation

Thank you again for all the pictures and emails letting us know what you have been up to. We always enjoy seeing them.
