Rec Bishop - Chinese New Year

Mrs Dodge - Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year

This week we have been learning about how Chinese New Year is celebrated.

We have been using our nip nip nip skills to try and pick up noodles with chop sticks.

We made a Chinese restaurant.

We enjoyed trying Chinese food...

We made the right amounts of money to put in our lucky packets.

We made our own Chinese dragon.

We loved making our own lantern.

Finally, we enjoyed making ourselves into a dancing dragon. We danced to some Chinese music.

The Great Race

The Story of  the Chinese Zodiac

We have been listening to and acting out the story of the animals' race.

We thought the rat was cheeky because he cheated and climbed on the ox's back!

We drew some of the animals from the story and talked about about our favourite part.

Chinese New Year

What a busy week!
We have been making Chinese dragons at the loose parts table. Some wonderful designs by the children!

We have also been working hard on our fine motor skills using tiny spoons to scoop up the rice.

We had to work as a team to build the Great Wall of China out of wooden blocks and Lego.

The children have also been cooking and serving in the restaurant, threading and making tangrams.

Mrs Dodge- Space Travel

Space Travel

This week we have been learning about space travel.
We have watched Tim Peake in space to see what life was like while he was up there.

Outside, we have been making rockets with the large construction kits:

We have enjoyed using the instruments to 'space songs' which are fast and slow:

In Maths, we have been practising subtraction and making amounts:

Each group made an alien using Popoids:

We have made rockets using 2D and 3D shapes, including tap tap shapes:
