Rec Bishop - Reading over the Easter break

Reading Karate will continue as normal over the Easter break – 1 day, 1 read.
As you are aware 2 weeks away from school is a long break so, any reading, writing and number work you can do to keep the children ticking over is greatly appreciated.
Enjoy your break and see you back in school on Monday 16th April.

Rec Bishop - Teach Your Monster to Read

In your child’s reading diary you will find the login details to the APP Teach Your Monster to Read. It is a free, online platform that support’s your child’s learning of phonics and tricky words. We hope it will be another more interactive way of sharing our love of reading and books.

RMcCabe - At the Airport

Last week we were thinking about Airports. Where are the planes going? What time do they depart or arrive? What are the parts of an aeroplane called and what are they for?

We made aeroplanes from Duplo, constructing the different parts; wings, hold, flight deck, wheels and jet engine. The children even added the pilot and co-pilot.

This week we introduced time telling. Most of us were good at telling o'clock times and some could tell half past times too!

The children have been applying their maths knowledge in their Role Play area. Sienna has been writing big numbers on post-its and stciking them to the globe to show customers how much the flights to that country cost. Leo has been accepting payments for tickets. Using his understanding of tens and ones, he has checked that the customer has paid the correct amount of ten p's and one p's. Great work both of you!

Our carpet area has become flight test zone! The children have been testing their paper planes to see who's plane can fly the furthest. The paper folding table has been very popular!

RMcCabe - Getting Active for Sports Relief

On Monday and Friday we dressed in active wear for Sports Relief.

We met Mr Toyne and played a variety of skill building games. We had a great time running around, jumping and throwing and catching!

After, we went to the gym and practised balancing and jumping off small apparatus. We made different shapes in the air like stars or superman poses. We tried to bend our knees when we landed to keep our balance.

Finally on Friday we ran a whole mile: 6 times around our school field! We were very tired but proud of what we had achieved. When we put our hand on our chest we could feel our hearts beating very fast!

Thank you for your donations and continuing support!

RMcCabe - Staying Safe Online

This term we have enjoyed a visit from our very own Digital Leaders. These are Fosse Way children dedicated to helping others stay safe online. They read the story 'Penguin Pig', asked the children some questions about the internet and explained a few rules to keep us safe.

1. Don't click on anything that looks too good to be true.
2. Don't go to meet anyone from the internet by yourself.
3. If you are feeling unsure always ask a grown up for advice.

Thanks Digital Leaders!

Rec Working with Mr Ward on Skitch

Once a week Mr Ward works with us on the iPads, he is teaching us lots of new skills.
This term the focus has been taking photographs –
both close-ups and long shots.

Now that we can do this he is showing us how to use the Skitch APP (a free download)
In Skitch we can label our photographs using the pencil tool.

Rec Bishop - Balloon racing with Dr. D!

Rec Bishop - Sharing our learning at home

Rec Bishop - Ready for take off!

As well as making kites we have also made paper aeroplanes and gyrocopters.

We investigated if the size of the gyrocopter changed how many times it span and if the number of paper clips we added made a difference.

We had great fun launching them from the bridge in our outside classroom!
