Celebrating Lincolnshire Day

Lincolnshire Day

Today we have been celebrating Lincolnshire Day by coming to school dressed in the colours of the Lincolnshire flag or in Lincoln City FC kits.

We began our day by reading 'The Lincolnshire Puppy' by Elly Sample.

We drew story maps to show where the puppy traveled around Lincoln and we talked about why Lincoln is such a special city.

We were also lucky enough to have our photo taken with the Vanarama National League Cup, which of course was won by our fantastic Lincoln City Football Club!

Underground and in the Dark (part 2)

Underground and in the Dark

We've had a very warm week at school this week, so we have continued to build dens to keep us cool.

We have enjoyed creating underground homes for animals.

We have also been developing our painting skills and also our scissor skills by creating silhouettes of nocturnal animals (on sunset backgrounds). We hope you like the finished pieces of work!

Let's hope the sun shines during the half term holidays!
Wishing you a wonderful week.

Vanarama National League Cup

We were very excited today to have the opportunity to see and have our photo taken with the Vanarama National League Cup.

A special mention has to go to Finley who must be Lincoln City's youngest number 1 fan at Fosse Way Academy!  Each week he comes in knowing who Lincoln have played, the score and who has scored...much more than me!

Even the staff got to hold it, we couldn't believe how heavy it was!

Underground and In the Dark

Underground and In the Dark

This week we have enjoyed exploring the underground and dark. We have been finding out about animals that live underground.

We created our own underground maps showing the different animals in their homes.

Some of us created our own underground homes.

We also wondered what it would be like to travel in the dark, so we made obstacle courses and travelled around them bind folded. We were great Teamwork Toucans helping each other!

We have really enjoyed exploring our dark role play dens, using torches with coloured filters.

What fun in the dark!

Making milkshakes

This week we have been looking at some of the food we can get from a farm.  We looked at how the milk gets from the farm to the shops,  once we had learnt about this we decided to use some yummy milk to make some delicious milkshakes.  We even tasted some goats milk to see how different it was to cows milk.

Whats your favourite milkshake flavour?

Green fingers

This week we have started planting our vegetable patch.  Yesterday we started by planting onions, the children helped dig the rows and then they each put an onion in.  We can't wait for them to start to grow.

I wonder what we will grow next!

Celebrations

Today we have three children to celebrate!

Firstly,  our two dancers Phoebe and Francis who both passed their first dance exam with a distinction, wow well done girls! They told us all about their dance to Humpty Dumpty and we even got a little demo!

Our next celebration is Oliver, he earned his certificate for swimming in his pyjamas.  He told us that is was very tricky and apparently the hardest part was having to swim without his goggles.  Well done Oliver.

I love seeing all your achievements and celebrating them with you so don't forget to bring them in.

Exploring The Farm

The Farm

There's been lots to learn about life on a farm!
We've enjoyed finding out lots of facts and information about different farm animals.
We've even milked a cow and collected eggs from our hens in our role play!

Can you guess the names of the farm animals created with tap-tap shapes?

Look at the hens we made using a paper plate!

In maths, we've been exploring doubling and halving, and had to solve problems to find out how many wellies the farmer would need for his animals.

We also used 1p, 2p and 10p coins to make different amounts of money to buy produce from our farm shop role play.

A super week where we've learnt lots of interesting facts about the food we eat!

Man on the Moon

We really enjoyed reading
Man on the Moon.

Bob is employed to look after the moon.

He keeps the moon clean and tidy and shows space tourists around.

Bob is sure there are no such
thing as aliens!

If you look carefully at the illustrations you might disagree!

Our blow painting aliens are amazing!

Planet Facts

As our Explorers topic continues we are learning lots of new skills.

This week we wrote planet
fact files.

What do you know about

Neptune and Mercury?

Our work is just out of this world!

We have had another really busy week in Reception.

Our painting, drawing and cutting and sticking is just out of this world.

White Post Farm

Here are some more photos from our wonderful trip to White Post Farm.  The children's excitement has continued this week, as they have been busy doing lots of activities all about the farm.

Look at some of the wonderful animals we had the opportunity to look at, hold and stroke.

Thank you White Post Farm

Woodside Falconry and Wildlife Park

We had a great day out at the Wildlife Park. We were greeted by a bright macaw parrot. Along our travels, with our guide, we found other interesting birds too; owls, hawks and cockatoos.

At the reptile show, we held a snake and stoked a bearded dragon and a blue tongue skink. Some of the children were a little bit unsure about touching these strange animals but they were really brave and had a go.

We were lucky to watch the tigers and wolves at dinner time. The keeper fed the tiger its meat with long tongs and threw the wolves meat over the walls. The clever wolves caught the meat before it reached the floor!

We enjoyed the Amazing Animal Show were we saw all kinds of strange, exotic animals and a rescued fox.
