Happy Diwali

This week we have been learning about the

Hindu Festival of Light – Diwali.

Our first job was to find out why and how 

Diwali is celebrated.

Making Rangoli patterns is really important tradition.

They are said to bring good luck to the household.

We used coloured stones, rice and bottle tops to 

create our own impressive Rangoli patterns – 

working as a team made this so much easier!

Hindu’s read the story of Rama and Sita when it is Diwali.

 Rama had to be really brave to rescue his beautiful wife Sita from the evil ten headed demon king.

Thank goodness for Hanuman, the king of the monkey, 

he gave Rama a special arrow that allowed 

Rama to kill the demon king.

As Rama and Sita travelled home they were guided all the way to their amazing palace by garlands of 

flowers and diva lamps (candles) 

We ended our week of Diwali celebration with a

few Indian snacks – poppadums, samosas and onion bhajis

dipped in mango chutney and raita.

Remember, Remember the 5th November

During our first week back at school we were 

learning about Bonfire Night.

We read the story of Guy Fawkes and pretended to be him and his friends in our outside classroom – 

hiding 36 barrels of gunpowder would not have been easy!

One of the most important things that we talked about this week was how we could all stay safe and have a 

great time on Bonfire night.

Once we understood about firework safety – the fun began!!!! 

We were really proud of all the different 

fireworks we made. 

We used our new found phonics skills to write words that 

described what fireworks do.

Bonfires!

Yesterday we looked at keeping safe near fires and loved exploring the fire engine, so today we decided to build a fire on the field.  We looked at what we needed and reminded ourselves of how to stay safe.  We had so much fun looking at the fire, describing what we could see and we even tried to blow the smoke in different directions!

Mrs Jarrett, Mrs Mabbott and Mrs Hubbard then toasted some marshmallows for everyone...they were delicious!

To help us warm up when we got inside, we had hot chocolate and hot dogs; what a yummy treat they were!

The day the fire engine came to visit!

Well what a wonderful day we have had! 

As part of our bonfire night topic we invited a fire engine and 5 fire fighters in to come and visit us.  The children were so excited when they saw the big red fire engine!  They had the chance to use the hoses, sit in the truck, try on a fire fighters uniform and their helmets, use thermal imaging cameras and talk to 5 real life fire fighters!  The children learnt so much and enjoyed every second and were impeccably behaved throughout, well done everyone!

I want to say a big thank you also to the fire fighters that came in as they took time out of their busy days and volunteered to come into school, unpaid to work with the children today, we are so appreciative and loved our morning!

Each week we will learn a new sound and a song to help us remember. We do lots of fun activities to help us learn and remember our sound of the week.

You could support your child by talking about the sound and finding objects in your home or when your out and about that start it!

Half term fun!

Welcome back to a new term and I am so pleased at how well all the children have settled straight back into Nursery. 

I have loved receiving lots of pictures of all the autumn inspired activities you have been emailing me, as well as the wonderful collages that have come into Nursery and all the amazing autumn objects you have brought in for us to explore!
