RMcCabe - What's Cooking?

During Restaurant week, the children became restaurant owners and chefs. They made signs showing off the tasty food they wanted to serve and painted their salt dough creations from last week. They also rolled up their sleeves, put on their aprons and made their own pizza by following recipes they'd written in the morning. Using construction, they designed their restaurants and created mouth-watering menus at the writing table.

In Maths, we continued our exploration of subtraction and began forming number sentences using the take away sign. Some children set up their own bakeries and practised working out change from ten pence together.

Rec Bishop - Vets and Pets Learning to multiply

Rec Bishop - We love to ride our bicycles!

Now the better weather is here we are starting to use the balance bikes with Mr Allan.

First we have to build up the strength in our legs by moving down the bench without using our hands.

After that had a go on our new balance bikes. We need to be able to glide across the playground.

Don’t worry if you haven’t had a go yet,
this was only our first session.

RMcCabe - Busy Bakers

Since returning from the Easter holidays we haven't stopped! The children have been opening their own cafes, designing menus, writing recipes and practising weighing and measuring. They used these skills to bake and decorate their own fairy cakes. They looked delicious!

Deconstruction

Last week we introduced a new type of activity; deconstruction. We used an old, broken CD player and gave the children a range of screw drivers and some safety goggle (so they felt the part) and let them explore the CD player. At first they were apprehensive as to what they could or should do but with a little help they soon got the CD player open and couldn't believe what they found inside.
They showed great control when using the screwdrivers and it really helped strengthen their fingers to help get them ready for writing!

If you have any old electrical items that no longer work, we’d love to take them off your hands.
Thank you.

Fun in the sun!

We had a lovely time in the sun last week, we love to go out in any weather but when the sun is shining makes it even more enjoyable!
One of our current focus’ is colour, so we put lots of different colour activities outside for the children to explore.

The children’s language and learning developed so much whilst they were mixing the colours, drawing pictures and playing. They were so excited when they made a new colour and couldn’t wait to share this new colour with their friends!

Another thing we have loved playing with is the water world. The children connected the different tubes and pipes together and ensured it ended up in the sand, even though we’ve used the water world before they still get so excited when they see the water flowing down the pipes! When it started to pool in the sand they started to dig a big hole to collect it in and then made a river for the water to flow down. Great team work everybody!
